Hello and welcome, y’all! We hope this finds everyone well.
Ash and James are here in beautiful Putney, Vermont, planning for our awesome Community Service Trip to Dominica in July! 21 days and counting, y’all!
We have been busy brainstorming and organizing community service projects and fun excursions in and around the village of Bense where we will be living during the trip. Bense is located on the northern tip of Dominica and has about 800 people who live there. We hope to create a rich and meaningful experience with each other and with the community. The plan for the first week will be to focus on community building and working on local projects based on the current needs of the village. The following week, we are going to work together to organize an engaging Summer Fun Camp for some of the younger kids. You all will have an opportunity to contribute your skills and talents to the camp so that everyone feels involved in creating a great experience for the local children.
While we’re going to be working hard in order to make a difference, we’re also going to have a lot of fun and make time to explore the island. We have an epic weekend excursion to the biggest boiling lake in the world. It is going to be a strenuous hike, so make sure that you have comfortable walking/hiking shoes and rain gear. Highlights of the hike will be the Titou Gorge and an incredible 360-degree view of the Caribbean Sea to the west and the Atlantic to the east. We also will make time to check out some of the beautiful beaches, waterfalls, sulfur springs, and local community organizations.
A great group of high school students will be joining the trip from all over the United States and other parts of the world. Come with an open mind and a desire to learn about yourself and how to work with and understand people from different backgrounds and cultures. Don’t forget: it’s going to be hot and humid with intermittent rain. Make sure that you review the packing list so that you feel prepared for these conditions. We are so excited to meet all of you! It’s going to be amazing!

P.S. Love yoga?! Ash will be offering optional yoga during the trip for anyone who is interested. If you want, you can bring a yoga mat but it’s not required.
